Silver is a precious metal that tarnishes naturally over time and may require a few simple steps to keep it in tip top condition.
Moisture and sulphides in the air react with silver causing it to tarnish. Therefore it is important to follow a few simple steps to keep it clean. If your piece of jewellery becomes tarnished you can bring the shine back by using a silver polishing cloth, which is impregnated with anti-tarnish solution. A small Towntalk polishing cloth will be provided with your finished product. Use this cloth in circular movements on your keepsake jewellery and this will remove any tarnish and bring back the shine.
When your items are made the fingerprint or hand and footprint are lightly antiqued to bring out the detail. Therefore I do not recommend using liquid silver dip solutions as this can remove the patina entirely.
Keep your jewellery dry. Take off before washing and remove at bedtime as sweating can cause some tarnish. Remember to take your jewellery off before exercising and always remove before swimming as the chlorine can react with the silver.
Please avoid strong perfumes/ aftershave s/ lotions and sprays directly on necklace pendants. Pure silver is a relatively soft metal so please remove bracelets when carrying out any activities where the charms will be in regular contact with hard surfaces (i.e. a desk) which will cause scratching, denting or general wear on the charms. Rubber or sulphur can also tarnish silver so avoid storing your jewellery away from such a storage solution.
Please note that each item is hand crafted from start to finish and may display slight ‘imperfections’. However, this makes the piece even more unique.
Please do check jump rings on a regular basis as they can open slightly through general wear.
Additional polishing cloths can be purchased from Cutie Keepsakes should you need one.
With some tender loving care and appropriate storage your keepsake jewellery will bring you years of wear and enjoyment.
